ISUD x TEP Heritage Walk "From Madras to the Constitution"
On the misty morning of Saturday, March 1, the members of ISUD set out on a trail led by the dynamic Ms. Shruti Vishwanathan, Founder of The Equals Project, to uncover the deep connections between Madras and the Constitution.
Starting from Ranade Library, we walked past the serene Nageswara Rao Park. We stood before the doors of Sir Alladi Krishnaswami Aiyer where one of the chief architects of India's Constitution lived, which is now under renovation.
The trail then continued towards the Andhra Mahila Sabha established by Ms. Durgabai Deshmukh, one of the fifteen women members of the Constituent Assembly, who was from the Madras Presidency.
Walking past the Kennedy street and knowing it's history we landed at Srinivasa Gandhi Nilayam where stories of Gandhi and Ambedkar echoed. The trail concluded at the C.P. Ramaswamy Convention Centre.
This two-hour walk was more than a scroll. It was a step back in time to witness how Madras shaped the nation's Constitution.
Madras didn't just witness history, it helped draft it.
